Highly respected addiction clinician-researchers, Robert D. Margolis, PhD and Joan E. Zweben, PhD, collaborated on this text introducing an integrated approach to the treatment of alcohol and other drug (AOD) problems. This integrated approach should broaden the perspectives of experienced and early career professionals alike. Practitioners from independent practice to public and private clinics will benefit from this very readable review of modern AOD treatment.

Amongst other clinical concepts, therapists will review material on models of addiction, contrasts between addiction and abuse, an integrated biopsychosocial approach, the biobehavioral phenomenon, assessment of AOD disorders, treatment modalities, the continuum of care, criteria for matching patients to treatment, case examples, the recovery oriented model, family and group therapy and relapse prevention.

It appears Margolis and Zweben were successful when they wrote, “We believe that our integrated approach will appeal to psychiatrists, medical professionals, social workers, alcohol and drug abuse counselors, and those working in social services, juvenile services, and the criminal justice system. We hope our content choice can be of service to the entire treatment community.”

"The good life consists in deriving happiness by using your signature strengths everyday in the main realms of living. The meaningful life adds one more component: using these same strengths to forward knowledge, power, or goodness. A life that does this is pregnant with meaning, and if God comes at the end, such a life is sacred."
