This APA published text is an excellent reference for clinicians seeking ideas on the synthesis of spirituality and therapy. CE participants will review a thorough history of the relationship between spirituality and mental health. The book also explores: theory, treatment interventions, assessment measures, therapeutic skills and fresh concepts for improving clinical training.

By way of presentation, Miller divided this 261 page book into four sections. It opens with chapters providing a context for discussing the integration of spirituality and mental health, their history and the assessment of spirituality. The text then reviews some present day applications of spirituality in treatment such as mindfulness, values clarification and behavioral approaches. Common treatment themes such as acceptance, forgiveness and hope are discussed in the third section and the book closes with suggestions for improving the clinical training in the integration of spirituality and treatment.

"The good life consists in deriving happiness by using your signature strengths everyday in the main realms of living. The meaningful life adds one more component: using these same strengths to forward knowledge, power, or goodness. A life that does this is pregnant with meaning, and if God comes at the end, such a life is sacred."

Martin E. P. Seligman, Ph.D. Authentic Happiness
