This clinically focused book presents the leading approaches in the treatment of unwanted homosexual attraction. The editors purposely chose the wide-ranging work of eight influential practitioners to highlight the diverse treatment approaches that are benefiting those seeking a change in sexual orientation and/or sexual identity. Bio: Julie Harren Hamilton Ph.D and Philip J. Henry Ph.D. Julie Harren Hamilton, PhD, LMFT, is an Assistant Professor of Psychology in the Graduate Counseling Psychology Program of Palm Beach Atlantic University. She is also a licensed marriage and family therapist with a private practice in North Palm Beach, Florida. Dr. Hamilton speaks in a variety of contexts on issues related to marriage, family life and spiritual growth. She has presented clinical workshops both locally and nationally on integrating therapy and spirituality, how faith helps during times of crisis, and issues related to homosexuality. In addition, Dr. Hamilton conducts seminars for pastors and Christian leaders on the origins of homosexuality and how to minister to homosexuals. She has produced a video entitled, Homosexuality 101: Where Does It Come From, Is Change Possible, and How Should Christians Respond? Dr. Hamilton is the 2009 President of the National Association for the Research and Therapy of Homosexuality (NARTH). She also serves on the Admissions Team of Place of Hope Children's Home, and she is a former president of the Palm Beach Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. Henry, PhD, is an Associate Professor and former director of the Graduate Counseling Psychology Program at Palm Beach Atlantic University in West Palm Beach, Florida. He received his PhD in counseling psychology from Temple University (APA approved program and internship) and his masters degree in counseling Psychology from Chestnut Hill College. He has a M.Div. from the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and he has completed further studies at Philadelphia Child Guidance Center, New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and Eastern Baptist Seminary. He has taught in psychology and counseling programs at several schools including Temple University, Chestnut Hill College and Eastern College. He has experience in the field of counseling in a wide variety of settings including counseling, research, training and supervision of counselors. He is a licensed psychologist and author of The Christian Therapist Notebook and The Therapist's Notebook for Addicted Populations. Contributors Joseph Nicolosi, PhD, is a clinical psychologist and founder of the Thomas Aquinas Clinic in Encino, CA. Along with two other clinicians, he founded the National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality (NARTH), in 1992, available at www.narth.com. He has published numerous books, book chapters and articles. Dr. Nicolosi offers international training seminars and supervises therapists who wish to develop a practice that includes reparative therapy for unwanted homosexuality. A. Dean Byrd, PhD, MBA, MPH, is President of the Thrasher Research Fund and a member of the University of Utah School of Medicine faculty, with appointments in the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine and the Department of Psychiatry. In addition, he is Adjunct Professor in the Department of Family Studies, also at the University of Utah. A licensed clinical psychologist, Dr. Byrd received his academic training at Spartanburg Methodist College, Brigham Young University, Medical College of Virginia, Loyola University, and the University of Utah. Dr. Byrd is the author of 5 books and more than 200 peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, book reviews, and opinion editorials on homosexuality, homosexual marriage, adoption by homosexual couples, and other family related topics. Mary Beth Patton, MA, LPC, received a bachelor's degree and a Women's Studies certificate from Portland State University and a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from Lewis and Clark College. Her specialty includes women and same-sex attraction and couples with sexual difficulties such as same-sex attraction, sexual addiction and sexual anorexia. She presents conference workshops and clinical trainings on therapeutic issues related to women and same-sex attractions. www.narth.com, is a licensed professional counselor, author and popular national and international speaker on issues related to human brokenness, real relationships, authentic sexuality and God's grace. She is an Adjunct Professor at Colorado Christian University. She wrote The Heart of Female Same-Sex Attraction: A Comprehensive Counseling Resource. Ms. Hallman received her Masters in Counseling from Denver Theological Seminary. Esly Regina Carvalho, MS, LPC, TEP, is an Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Trainer of Trainers, accredited by the EMDR Institute. She is the 2007-2009 President of EMDR Ibero-America and maintains a private practice in Brasilia, Brazil. She is an international speaker and author of many articles and books specifically related to issues of emotional healing. Her best selling book in Spanish, Cuando el Homosexual Pide Ayuda, has gone into its fifth printing. Mike Rosebush, PhD, is the founder of Sanctification Coaching and the author of the book, Sanctification Coaching. He received his PhD in Counseling Psychology from the University of North Carolina, he is a Nationally Certified Counselor and a LPC in Colorado. He has served as Exodus International's Director for Professional Counselors' Network, as well as a clinical member of NARTH. George A. Rekers, PhD, ThD, MBA, is Distinguised Professor of Neuropsychiatry and Behavioral Science Emeritus at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. He was previously a Research Fellow in Psychology and a Visiting Scholar at Harvard. He holds the Diplomate in Clinical Psychology from the American Board of Professional Psychology, and was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Clinical Psychology. He has published over one hundred and twenty academic journal articles and book chapters and ten books. He received his PhD in psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles. Kimberly Barnett Oram, Psy.D., is Assistant Professor of Counseling Psychology in the Graduate School of Trinity International University in Davie, Florida. She received her bachelor's degree in biochemistry from Virginia Tech and her Doctor of Psychology degree from Nova Southeastern University. She co-authored chapters on sexual and gender identity disorders and professional ethics, legal and multicultural issues in mental healthcare in the 2009 edition of the widely used text book, Essential Psychopathology and Its Treatment. She is licensed as a clinical psychologist in Florida and Virginia, with an active practice in Florida's Treasure Coast area. |
