On the Road to Freedom: A Tool Kit for Christian Counselors will help clinicians working from a Christian perspective to improve their mastery of respected Christian-clinical approaches. Colleen Stortvedt effectively presents methods, tools and strategies for the successful treatment of conflicted relationships, depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, impulse control.

The text encourages a way of thinking and living by the therapist that contributes to effective integration. Readers will have an increased competence in the treatment of many basic issues such as identity, forgiveness, repentance and suffering. They will also be better equipped with practical tools such as charts, diagrams, games and homework assignments. Therapists will increase their skill in using scripture and spirituality while being challenged to 'think outside the box' in the promotion of the healing process.

Educational Objectives

  • Have an improved ability to assign effective homework and how to follow-up to increase the therapeutic impact
  • Have a greater appreciation for, and can more effectively use; music, film, video, prayer, art, games, books, poetry and artwork in the therapeutic process

Bio: Dr. Colleen M. Stortvedt

Colleen M. Stortvedt is an adjunct faculty member at Wayne State College. She has a M.A. in Counseling and a Doctorate in Biblical Counseling and she is a bilingual therapist at Oasis Counseling International in Norfolk, Nebraska. She has a passion for facilitating the process on integrating the spiritual and psychological perspective in therapy. She has traveled internationally providing training in this process.
