Course: To Thine Own Self Be True
by Lewis M. Andrews, PhD
|
In this long respected classic, Lewis M. Andrews, PhD, speaks on the connection between spiritual values and emotional health. By way of introduction he makes three noteworthy observations. First, the feedback from his talks reveal that people in all walks of life are interested in the connection between values and emotional health not just mental health professionals. The second, is the quality of the questions raised by people who are interested in the connection between values and health is remarkably consistent, no matter the audience. The third factor is a consensus that something fundamental is missing from modern conceptions of mental health—he cites multiple historical figures promoting the belief there is an ethical or spiritual dimension which is essential to overcoming such difficult emotional problems as depression, guilt, feelings of worthlessness, indecision, boredom, fear, frustration, loneliness, and anxiety. Andrews points out that some of the greatest scientific minds from Newton to Einstein were deeply spiritual people. He references Einstein who said the person lacking “a lively feeling for values…more closely resembles a well-trained dog than a harmoniously developed person.” This book is a respected classic, those interested in the connection between spiritual values and mental health will enjoy this CE opportunity.
